About/Join Us

Background

Welcome to the weird world of NCB Radio

Established on January 7, 2011, we’ve been attempting to do radio to varying degrees of success for a fair while.

While not knowingly connected to any nationalised industries, NCB Radio – or North Cornwall Broadcasting to use its full name – is a small but punchy Cornwall based radio station that exists to share the love of music and Cornwall with the world. Well, sometimes it is probably just our mothers, but bear with us here.

In a time where radio has never been less diverse in a media landscape increasingly dominated by algorithms, formulas and providing celebrity filled generic tat to the masses, NCB Radio is unashamedly unique.

We don’t tell our presenters what to play. Which is just as well, because they’d tell us to bog off. The only rules, universally agreed, is that we NEVER play Coldplay, U2 and a few others.

Instead, our presenters are free to raid whatever collection of music they have to play the music that you love, you forgot you loved and occasionally wish you’d forgotten. Singles, album tracks, vinyl or CD, it doesn’t matter provided its not on the banned list.

As a result, NCB Radio is a place where you can hear a vast array of genres from alternative to metal, reggae to drum and bass, house to pop, rock to indie….and almost every other thing in between. And where the ‘conglomerates’ have celebrities, we have unashamed music lovers sharing their shows with you. Yes, you.

Broadcasting on NCB Radio

We’re always keen to welcome people aboard who complement our current output and team because behind the scenes, we’re a happy little social club of music lovers.

We broadcast remotely, so geography isn’t necessarily an issue but please bear in mind the following.

  •  We don’t accept generic or syndicated shows. Very occasionally we invite a show from elsewhere to be played out on NCB Radio but this is the exception rather than the rule.
  • You want to broadcast a show featuring genres of music or styles which doesn’t replicate something we already do. By this we mean that we’ve already got a metal show so we are less likely to commission another.
  • It takes a certain ‘type’ of person to make a success of being in NCB Radio. That being, if you’re the sort of person who could start a pub brawl with your own shadow, things probably won’t work out. Central to everything we do is the fact we love music, love broadcasting to and about where we live and we do it because we enjoy it.
  • We don’t do office politics. Or any type of politics. Think of the process of joining NCB Radio as one similar to when you go to adopt a pet. It’s not enough to want a pet, but, rather, you have to be suitable for the pet as the pet is suitable for you. NCB Radio is more fluffy kitten who occasionally scratches as it is an alligator – by which, we mean that we have to be right for you as much as you are us.
If you’ve got as far as reading the above and you still want to join us – get in touch, we’d love to hear from you.

Can I join if I don't want to present a show?

You don’t have to present a show on NCB Radio to get involved. We are actively looking for people who can help us in ways that don’t involve presenting an on air show.

Here are some of the types of skillsets we’re keen to hear from – but if there’s something you can offer that we don’t already have listed, still get in touch.

Please note: While all roles at NCB Radio are voluntary, we are absolutely more than happy to help you to use what you do with us to help you develop in a career or ambition. We are very proud of the fact that previous members of our team have gone onto have very successful careers.

You must be over 16 to join the NCB Radio team – although, in the odd occasional circumstance we will consider involvement from those aged 14 and above but they would require constant parental supervision for the duration of their involvement – we simply don’t have the resources to do this ourselves. We also do not offer formal work experience placements for the same reason; and NCB Radio operates remotely for the majority of its operations.

Live Events Team

NCB Radio gets invited to join in a wide range of community events in Bodmin and surrounding areas and this is something we’re very keen to expand on going forward.

Key attributes for this role include being confident with people, capable of promoting NCB Radio in a positive manner to the wider community, the ability to leave a good impression with stakeholders and community pillars. There may be times where you are asked to assist our Broadcasting Team with the setting up and putting away of our PA and/or broadcasting setups – training will be provided.

Digital Production Team

We are on the look out for individuals who can help us to expand our content and reach across a range of different platforms and social media sites – with a particular interest in Facebook, Instagram and Tiktok. A Digital Producer will work alongside our Broadcasting and Live Events team to co-ordinate our social media output. They will also help with the creation and maintenance of a social media/digital content calendar.

Bodmin and Beyond Team

New for 2026 is the launch of our Bodmin and Beyond project, where we use our resources to tell the stories and goings on in the area we broadcast to.

Our Bodmin and Beyond Team will help to create content for our branded sections on the website and social media that intend to draw traffic to and increase the relevance of NCB Radio in the community.

A fully remote role, this is a particularly useful opportunity for young people who aspire to step into a career within Journalism, Media Production or content creation. While remote, we particularly welcome the involvement of people who live in the North Cornwall area and are studying a Journalism or Media related course at A-Level or above.

You will work under the guidance of our founder, who is an experienced and qualified local journalist. Not only can you use what you help us make for your own portfolios, but there will also be potential opportunities for your content to be used in other outlets, potentially providing a showcase for your talents.

Bodmin and Beyond isn’t a news service, but rather, a slice of local community life.
